Through the years, situations and people have tried to come between Tree Hill’s golden couple. There is one, though, that we find the most heartbreaking. Possibly because it is really of their own doing.
Julie: Chris Keller and the Tour in Season Two
Chris Keller is not the real reason Nathan and Haley broke up, but he put a face on it, so to speak. Nathan and Haley were still kids with their own dreams to pursue and being married was a huge, scary commitment. Chris Keller represented another choice for Haley — following her dream of being a musician. As sad as the separation was, it was important and Nathan and Haley needed to learn they could follow their dreams and still be together.
Meaghan: Haley Goes on Tour in Season Two
This is by far the saddest Nathan/Haley turmoil and I think that’s probably what makes it work so well. Haley freaks out and leaves. Nathan basically self-destructs with Haley gone. It’s awful, and I get depressed watching it happen, but ultimately it confirms for both of them that they want to be together. It makes their happiness all the more satisfying to watch when they finally do find each other again in season three.
Morgan: Haley Goes on Tour in Season Two
In this instance, Nathan and Haley and their youth were their own worst enemy, I think. It wasn’t Chris Keller who broke them, it was them. They didn’t know how to handle this situation. I’m glad I didn’t watch during season two, because I don’t know if I could have handled watching this from week to week. I do think it was necessary. They needed to go through that so that they could survive. In the long run, Haley leaving was for the best. That doesn’t make it any easier.
